Annandale Way Long-Distance Walk
Grand opening on 12th September 2009
Sulwath Connections Landscape Project (SCLP) was a £3.9 million partnership project funded by HLF and SNH, hosted by Dumfries and Galloway Council (DGC), that celebrates and enhances the landscape and environment which helps to make Dumfries and Galloway such a special place. The Annandale Way project was one of over twenty projects that came under the Sulwath umbrella.
The initial scoping study of the Annandale Way route was first started in 2002 as a Foot and Mouth recovery project looking to encourage new tourism opportunities in the area. This was then further developed through the Sulwath Connections project which identified a definitive route on the ground, negotiated written agreements with landowners and over saw installation of the infrastructure required to make the route accessible. A working group consisting of Moffat Initiative, Lockerbie Initiative, Lochmaben Initiative, Hightae Walking Groups and Annan Walking Group (on behalf of Annan Initiative) have been involved in developing the route alongside the Sulwath Connections project officer.
