The stunning Grey Mare's Tail

Beautiful views - a must for hill walkers

Grey Mare's Tail Nature Reserve

Grey Mare's Tail

Situated just 10 miles North East of Moffat is the Grey Mare's Tail, a spectacular 200 ft. waterfall in a dramatic moorland setting below White Coomb (2,690 ft.).

A Short Drive from MoffatTake the A708 from Moffat Town Centre, this windy little road leads in 10 miles to a magnificent natural waterfall, the 5th highest in the U.K. with abundant bird and wildlife.

A Mountainous Landscape

The National Trust for Scotland (NTS) manages the site.  The remote wild mountainous landscape above the waterfall, coupled with its outstanding botanical richness make the reserve one of Scotland's upland jewels.  It is possible to take a short walk to the viewpoint, or if you have more time and energy you can climb up the path at the side of the waterfall and behind it to the source, Loch Skeen.

Beautiful Views

The path drops dramatically away, the sides of the fall making caution essential, but provide beautiful views.  A visit to the Grey Mare's Tail is a must for hill walkers and natural historians
