Motorbikes in Moffat

A frequent motorcycling stop-off place

Moffat is already a frequent stop-off place for motorcycling clubs, but many miss out by returning to their motorway journey and heading on up northwards.  The curving roads and countryside around Moffat have much to commend themselves to the motorcycling groups, with excellent curving rides out available on our doorstep.

So don't go away,
stay an extra day!

Longer Motorcycling rides

Longer curving rides will take motorcycling groups along the scenic route to Edinburgh with its sweeping hairpins up the Devil's Beeftub and onwards after the summit past the source of the River Tweed and through forest sections and rolling countryside right into the city itself.  A joyful ride for motorcycling group

Solway Coast Motorcycling rides

Another full ride takes you along the open curved A road to Dumfries and past to the Solway Coast, perhaps to Kirkcudbright and back via Dumfries to Gretna, returning to Moffat via the road parallel to the motorway, passing through Kirkoswald, Ecclefechan and finally Lockerbie to Beattock and Moffat itself.  All excellent motorcycling.

Motorcycling to The Lake District

Within striking distance is a ride down to Carlisle and on out to Cockermouth, returning via Keswick, Penrith and up the motorway to Moffat - all excellent roads to ride.

Shorter Motorcycling rides

For shorter rides with curving B roads and smaller!! terrain.  Test your motorcycling skills or simply soak up the stunning views by taking the Selkirk road out to St. Mary's Loch, perhaps stopping to view the Grey Mare's Tail waterfall.  The motorcycling-friendly cabin (open all year) by the Loch supplies excellent fare, as does the famous Tibbie Shiel's Inn.  Take in the tranquillity of the lakeside views and then move on to turn left onto the Megget reservoir road with steep descents and twists and turns (the view make up for dropping to touring pace) and rejoin the main A road to Edinburgh taking a left turn to bring you back down the big hairpins of the Devil's Beeftub descending to Moffat, which you can see comfortably nestled below you.
